      Yvonne Ngadi Gibril

      Advisory Board Member

Yvonne Gibril is a distinguished Sierra Leonean banking executive, statistician, and economist whose career has shaped the country’s financial landscape. With a wealth of expertise in research, statistics, and monetary policy, she has held key leadership roles at the Bank of Sierra Leone, driving economic policy and institutional development.

Gibril holds a Bachelor of Science with honors in Mathematics from Durham University/Fourah Bay College,  a Master of Science in Statistics from Rutgers University in 1972, and another Master of Arts in Statistics, Economics, and Econometrics from the University of Leeds..

Gibril’s professional career began as a Mathematics and Statistics teacher at Prince of Wales School, but she soon transitioned into the banking sector, joining the Bank of Sierra Leone in 1972. Over the years, she climbed the ranks, holding positions such as Assistant Director and later Deputy Director of the Research Department (1987-1991). She was later appointed Director of Personnel (1991-1993), followed by Director of Research (1993). Her exceptional leadership and expertise led to her appointment as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone in 1993, a position she held with distinction.

Beyond her national contributions, Gibril played a significant role in West African financial cooperation. She was a delegate to the West African Clearing House’s annual meetings in the early 1980s and later served on the Implementation and Monitoring Subcommittee of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Program on Monetary Cooperation (1989-1991). She was also a part-time lecturer in statistics at the University of Sierra Leone during multiple academic years, contributing to the intellectual growth of future economists and statisticians.

Recognized for her contributions to banking and economic research, Gibril has been listed as a noteworthy banking executive by Marquis Who’s Who. She is an associate member of the Institute of Statisticians, England, reflecting her dedication to quantitative analysis and economic modeling.
